Pet Containment System Installation Guide

Basic Installation Front and Back Yard

This type of boundary set up is probably the easiest and most common installation. The entire lot including your home is enclosed in the loop. Double Strand or Twisted Wire is used for the run from the transmitter (in Garage) to the perimeter. Using the Dual Strand Wire produces no boundary. 100 ft. of Dual Strand pre-twisted wire is included with the Innotek IUC-5100 You may purchase it separately for use with other systems or make your own by twisting 2 pieces of single strand boundary fencing wire together.

You may cross a paved or concrete drive way by several methods:
  • Run the wire through an existing seam or crack in the drive.
  • Run the wire through an existing drainage pipe under the drive.

Caution: Since the wire will be deeper below ground your field width may be narrowed. We recommend you test the system in this area to be certain the collar is receiving a signal.

You may cut a concrete or paved drive using a circular saw with a masonry blade. After inserting the wire in the cut fill the cut with heavy caulk or asphalt patch.

Also consider if your neighbor uses the same system that you do. If your neighbor does have the same system, manufacturer, as yours, just consider using a different manufacturer, each uses a different frequency. When placing the wire next to your neighbors wire, same manufacturer or not, 5 feet should be a sufficient distance between the wires. First lay out the wire, and then test the system with the collar and test light. If everything is working correctly, you can even consider moving the wires closer together.

ELECTRIC DOG FENCE FOR FRONT AND BACKYARD WITH HOME IN CENTER

Basic Installation Back Yard Only

This type of boundary set up is very easy to install. The loop is used to enclose a defined area, such as the front yard or back yard.

Double Strand or Twisted Wire is used for the run from the transmitter (in Garage) to the perimeter. Using the Dual Strand Wire produces no boundary. 100 ft. of Dual Strand wire is included with the INNOTEK               IUC-5100 You may purchase it separately for use with other systems or make your own by twisting 2 pieces of single strand boundary fencing wire together.

This type of installation does not give the dog access to the house.

 

ELECTRIC DOG FENCE IN BACK YARD  ONLY

Double Loop Installation Back Yard Only

This type of boundary set up produces a double wide field and can be fit to most yards. The double loop is used to define 3 sides of the pet containment area and the house is used to define the fourth boundary. The 2 wires should be separated by 3-8 feet depending on your field width settings.

Double Strand or Twisted Wire is used for the run from the transmitter (in Garage) to the perimeter. Using the Dual Strand twisted Wire produces no boundary. 100 ft. of Dual Strand twisted wire is included with the Innotek IUC-5100. You may purchase it separately for use with other systems or make your own by twisting 2 pieces of single strand boundary fencing wire together.
  • We recommend this type of installation for most yards.

This type of installation gives the dog access to the house.

  • Can be used to produces a double wide field.
  • Can be fit to most yards.

This type of installation does require more wire than a single loop installation.

Caution: Take care to not create a gap between the fields. We recommend you lay the wire on top of the ground and test the system prior to burying the fencing wire.

Double Loop Installation Back Yard with Pool or Shed

This type of boundary set up is a variation of the Double Loop Installation. This variation is used to define a  pet containment area as well as deny your dog access to smaller areas, like a pool or tool shed, within the yard. Use Double Strand wire to connect the smaller inner loop to the boundary.

This type of boundary set up produces a double wide field and can be fit to most yards. The double loop is used to define 3 sides of the pet containment area and the house is used to define the fourth boundary. The 2 fencing wires should be separated by 3-8 feet depending on your field width settings.

Double Strand or Twisted Wire is used for the run from the transmitter (in Garage) to the perimeter. ELECTRIC DOG FENCE FOR BACK YARD WITH NO ACCESS TO POOL FOR DOG

Double Loop Installation with Existing Fence

This type of boundary set up is a variation of the Double Loop Installation. This variation is used where existing fencing defines one or more sides of a yard. Works great if your neighbors have fences on one or more sides of your lot. Use Double Strand twisted wire along the boundary where you have fencing.

Double Strand or Twisted Wire is used for the run from the transmitter (in Garage) to the gate. Using the Dual Strand twisted Wire produces no boundary. 100 ft. of Dual Strand twisted wire is included with the INNOTEK IUC-5100. You may purchase it separately for use with other systems or make your own by twisting 2 pieces of single strand boundary fencing wire together.

This type of installation gives the dog access to the house.

Caution: You should avoid placing the wire close to metallic objects such as chain link fences. We recommend you lay the wire out and test the system with the collar prior to burial. You should also check to see if the collar is activated near the fence in other parts of the yard. If this is the case move your boundary fencing wire further away from the fence.

Take care to not create a gap between the fields

 

 

ELECTRIC DOG FENCE LAYOUT WITH AN EXISTING FENCE

Gate Blocker Installation

This type of boundary set up is a variation of the Double Loop Installation. This variation is used to block the dogs access to a gate or other opening in a fence or other boundary. Use Double Strand twisted wire to connect the smaller inner loop to the boundary.

Double Strand or Twisted Wire is used for the run from the transmitter (in Garage) to the gate. Using the Dual Strand twisted Wire produces no boundary. 100 ft. of Dual Strand twisted wire is included with the INNOTEK IUC-5100. You may purchase it separately for use with other systems or make your own by twisting 2 pieces of single strand boundary fencing wire together.

This type of installation gives the dog access to the house.

Combination Installation

This installation is based on a real customer's yard. He wanted to enclose his entire piece of property and keep the dogs off of his patio/pool area as well as off his 2 putting greens.

Double Strand or Twisted Wire is used for the run from the transmitter (in Garage) to the perimeter as well as between his various protected zones. Using the Dual Strand twisted Wire produces no boundary. 100 ft. of Dual Strand twisted wire is included with the INNOTEK IUC-5100. You may purchase it separately for use with other systems or make your own by twisting 2 pieces of single strand boundary wire together. Using elements of the single loop as well as the double loop design he was able to define the boundaries exactly as he wanted.

 

ELECTRIC DOG FENCE DESIGN TO ELIMINATE SEVERAL AREAS FOR DOG

Flower Bed Protection

This type of boundary set up is a variation of the Double Loop Installation. This variation is used to block the dog's access to a particular area in your yard such as flower beds or your garden. This type of installation can be used with existing fencing as well as other pet containment installations. Use Double Strand twisted wire to connect the smaller inner loop to the boundary. The boundary fencing wire can be buried in front or inside the beds.

Double Strand or Twisted Wire is used for the run from the one bed to another. Using the Dual Strand twisted Wire produces no boundary. 100 ft. of Dual Strand twisted wire is included with the Innotek IUC-5100. You may purchase it separately for use with other systems or make your own by twisting 2 pieces of single strand boundary fencing wire together.

This type of installation gives the dog access to the house.

Caution: You should avoid placing the wire too close the exterior walls of your home. The field can pass through the wall and your dog could receive a stimulation indoors. We recommend you lay the wire out and test the system with the dog collar prior to burial. You should also check to see if the collar is activated near interior walls. If this is the case move your boundary wire further away from the wall.

Take care to not create a gap between the fields. We also recommend that you block the area around the gate and not just the opening.

The largest break thru is this new INNOTEK ® ULTRASMART ™ DOG COLLAR RECEIVER. These advanced small receivers are integrated into the collar. This collar receivers contour to the curved surface of your dog’s neck for a perfect fit, as opposed to all of the other receivers which are basically a square box. This Ultrasmart ™Dog Collar Receiver is WATERPROOF
Most dog collar receivers are now waterproof. Waterproof means that the collar receiver can be submerged in water and will not be damaged. If the collar receiver is not waterproof it is water resistant. Water resistant means that the collar will not be damaged if exposed to rain or snow, but it should not be submerged. Clearly waterproof dog collars are the best.

ReadyTest™ ensures that your dog’s collar fits properly. The dog collar emits an audible click to inform you when the  dog collar is properly fitted.

I did not want to spend $10,000 putting a wall or metal gate aroung my property but my neighborhood has busy streets and my dog was in danger every time she got out.  I purchase the innotek unit . We are real pleased with or SmartDog SD-2000 underground wire fence. We have two dogs, one very large and one very small. The large dog, after training, tested the fence three different times, once while we watched and twice unattended. The unattended times she would not reenter the containment area so we walked her through the house. That was all it took. She now knows where it is safe and not safe to roam. The little dog tested it only once. She now is contained and will not go close to the fence area. We are working with her to let her know she is not exposed except for the fenced area. I would recommend the fence to anyone. It works well, but for a couple old folks it was taxing to bury the cable. We buried 1000' with a spade. Divide 1000' by 0.33' (width of cut of 6" blade w/2" overlap) and see how many spade cuts I had to make ;_) ***** 5 star rating

Our two dalmation/pitbull pound puppies have both a front and back yard thanks to this system and we have twice with them. They know what the flags mean, but they don't need to stay up long. They are only shocked in the rare instance wrestling takes them too close to the barrier. All of the neighbors love the dogs and can walk their kids down the street to say hi or not, but they know the dogs won't bother them; so it's also taught them how to relate to strangers if they want positive attention and how to be protective of their space. Also, others dogs can come over and play if our friends come, or our dogs can keep them out as a team if they are stray or aggressive. It's the entire difference between them having a free and happy atmosphere and excercise or not. Especially great for two dogs who can keep each other company.
