The electric dog fence is an much more affordable alternative to traditional wooden, vinyl, and chain link fences. The electric dog fence will keep your dog safe in your backyard, front yard or both. Dogs cannot dig under, jump over or chew throughthe electric fence. The electric dog fence maintenance is less expensive than traditional wood or chain link fences as well. Maintenance is easy, as they never have to be stained or paintedand you can mow right over them. You will not have to look at an unsightly fence around your property again, because an electric dog fence is buried. It can not be seen and does not ruin the landscaping of your property. When you install these electric fence units you will have a dog fence perimeter that can not be see and that effectively provides pet containment for your dog .If you and your neighbor both have dogs you can put an electric dog fencesystem around both your yards giving your dog a larger area to play and ability to visit with your neighbour and his dog . Each dog must have a receiver dog fence collar for it to work properly.
Electric dog fences work by burying an electric fencing wire on the perimeter of the area you want to enclose for pet containment, there is a central dog fence transmitter and a battery operated dog fence collar which acts as a recievier.A buried fencing wire makes a magnetic field and this magnetic field reacts to the receiver in your dog fence collar. When the dog moves too close to the fencing wire at the perimeter of the electric fence, a warning beep or tone will sound. This tone changes frequency letting the dog know that it is nearing the perimeter or boundary fencing wire of the electric dog fence or pet containment area. When the dog gets close to the perimeter of the electric dog fence, and if the dog ignores the tone, continues going toward then crossing the fencing wire boundary, it will receive a correction . If your dog goes back, to the safe part of the enclosed area of pet containment, away from the electric dog fence boundary fencing wire, it will not receive any further corrections.
Eventually the dog will learn to stay away from the dog fencing wire at the boundary or perimeter of the electric dog fence, when it hears the beep or tone, the dog will go away from the electric fence wire and it will not receive a correction.
There is no need to be concerned about the correction for the dog , because they are minor and will not harm your dog.These corrections are completely safe for your dog in that they are like a mild stimulation. It feel similar to when you rub your feet on the carpet and touch a door knob. It doesn't hurt, but is very annoying to the dog. The electric dog fence does not affect the people walking around in the yard or over the fencing wire, unless of course the person is carrying the dog collar and has their finger on the electrodesSome models have an automatic shut off featurethat keeps your dog from being overcorrected.
Maintenance of these electric dog fences or pet containment systems is as easy as changing or recharging a battery in the collar.Always keep the batteries charged, so the dog recieves the proper correction. If the batteries are not working, the dog may run through the underground fence as the dog will not hear the beep or get a correction.
When you install these electric dog fences you have dog fence you can not see that effectively contains your dog or dogs. It will not prevent other dogs from entering your yard, but it will prevent your dog or dogs from leavng the enclosed area of pet containment.

We have two dogs, a large black lab mix and a border collie mix. We installed the IUC 4100 over 2 acres of our property. This product turned out to be an excellent choice for us. The training DVD was great and the one time I had to call for support I received excellent advice. Both rechargable collars have given us no problems (1 1/2 years old) and they get there share of abuse - our dogs are very active.
One note on this technology if your not sure about its effectiveness. We also have a few free ranging hens for eggs. The dogs will not cross the fence even when the hens walk near the line. Now that's temptation! **** 5 Star Rating

Just upgraded today to the IUC 4100 from the HF-201, which I purchased on 7/22/02. Our Boxer "SUSU" is 3years old and was trained from a puppy, she only requires the audiable "tone" with a occassional test of the system mostly from her excitment, and not realizing her location in the yard. My System works amazingly well after 1 year. My golden retrievers were wanderers and I can leave them alone outside all day now without a single worry. I've had no problems with the other brand systems employed by both my next door neighbors. My 2 goldens stay out of the garden perimeter as well. This system has given me a new sense of security. I'll never have to spend my evenings driving around screaming out my car window. :) I'm adding a new black lab puppy to the system soon and hope the same good fortune continues.
